Press release

WITH A YEAR TO KILL THE ACTUAL RACE START, THE VIRTUAL GLOBE40 IS ABOUT TO SET SAIL : REGISTRATION IS OPEN!

The famous VIRTUAL REGATTA OFFSHORE game will serve as the platform for the VIRTUAL GLOBE40 race and is due to set sail on 26 June 2021 from Tangier.

Racking up a million or so players during the last VENDEE GLOBE, the world’s leading game in this domain is now heading off around the world in its GLOBE40 version, a double-handed race with stopovers on what promises to be an intense competition with an original course.

The game will include all 8 stages and the schedule, along the exact same route as the pioneers of this first edition will sail in a year’s time (see schedule attached).

From Morocco’s major historic city to the wild islands of Cape Verde, from Mauritius to New Zealand, the unprecedented passages in Polynesia and Ushuaia’s lands at the ends of the earth, Brazil’s north-eastern shores with Recife, the sultry climes of Grenada in winter and a return to Europe via Lisbon: it’s one unique and exceptional course.

The 3 leg coefficients (small-medium-large) will be followed to the letter and it will be possible to hit the racetrack at one leg or another in what is sure to be an epic 9-month voyage for the players.

An initial shakedown leg for the teams between Tangier and Cape Verde.

Spanning around 1,800 miles on a direct course, the first leg is a shakedown between Tangier and Mindelo on the island of Sao Vincente. Enjoying a true voyage vibe, players will journey from the major city where East meets West via the passage marks of Madeira and Tenerife in the Canaries to the islands of Cape Verde so cherished by Cesaria Evora. From here they will launch onto the first major 7,000-mile leg as they set sail on 17 July for Mauritius.

Some fabulous prizes: a trip for 2 to Polynesia with TAHITI AIR NUI for the outright winner of the event, with HELLY HANSEN jackets in the race colours up for grabs for each leg victory.
